The Southern Cameroneans have been ravaged by a civil war for years now and this has rendered several of them destitute and homeless. Several have found a home in Gembu, Taraba State Nigeria as Refugees.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn the heart of Taraba State, Nigeria, lies the vibrant community of Gembu. Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of the Mambilla Plateau, Gembu is a place where tradition meets modernity, and resilience defines its people.

The people of Gembu are known for their warmth, hospitality, and rich cultural heritage. Despite facing challenges, they embrace life with unity and determination. However, like many communities around the world, Gembu is not immune to the impact of crises and displacement.

In response to the urgent health and protection needs of Cameroon refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable populations in Nigeria, FHI 360 with support from the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (BPRM), initiated a transformative project.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The FHI 360 BPRM-funded project in Taraba State is a beacon of hope, providing essential primary healthcare services, protection interventions, and social cohesion activities. The project aims to improve access to life-saving healthcare, prevent disease outbreaks, and reinforce protection for refugees and vulnerable populations through a combination of community and facility-based strategies.<\/p>

The FHI 360 BPRM-funded project in Taraba State is a beacon of hope, providing essential primary healthcare services, protection interventions, and social cohesion activities.<\/p>

To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8th March 2024, the community of Gembu came together in a spirit of unity and empowerment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Led by FHI 360 and supported by local leaders and stakeholders, the celebration was a testament to the resilience and strength of women in the community.<\/p>

The day began with a road walk to raise awareness about women’s rights and the importance of celebrating women. Community members, dignitaries, and partners joined hands to promote gender equality and social cohesion.<\/p>

Educational sessions on menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and gender-based violence highlighted the critical need for women’s empowerment and access to healthcare services. Through informative talks, dramas, and interactive discussions, women were empowered with knowledge and resources to take charge of their health and well-being.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The celebration also featured vibrant cultural performances.\u00a0An exhibition featured handmade products by women from the safe space, with influential individuals and community members demonstrating their support through purchases.<\/p>

The success of International Women’s Day in Taraba State is owed to the dedicated efforts of the FHI 360’s “Improving health and integration for the Cameroonian refugees, Asylum seekers, and Vulnerable populations in Nigeria” project team, generously supported by BPRM.
